Hyperdimension Neptunia Game List – The Most Complete Lineup

Hyperdimension Neptunia, or also known as Choujigen Game Neptune in Japan is the Japanese role-playing game series developed by Idea Factory. The game acts as a parody of the big games console company like SEGA, Microsoft, and Nintendo having a war. However, the most interesting is, those game platforms are personified by a bunch of cute girls, complete with their huge breasts.

The game’s stories sets in the world of Gamindustri, which is separated into four nations which are each led by one CPU: Planeptune, Lastation, Lowee, and Leanbox. Each nation is totally distinctive from the others in appearance and environment, with each symbolizing a particular video game console. Lastation personifies the PlayStation, Lowee personifies the Wii, and Leanbox personifies the Xbox, while Planeptune represents the canceled Sega Neptune. At the very start of the story, the four goddesses are battling each other for “shares” in a war called the Console War. Shares are the manifestation of the belief citizens put into their goddess, and without shares, goddess dies. Due to the fact, some of the games feature time and/or dimension travel there are minor differences in the settings for each title.

So far, Idea Factory has released several Hyperdimension Neptunia series for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita, which I will review and explained below from the very first released.

Original Series

The original series includes Hyperdimension Neptunia, Mk2, Victory, and Megadimension Neptunia VII.

Hyperdimension Neptunia

Hyperdimension NeptuniaStandard Edition
Released on August 19, 2010
Developers: Idea Factory, Compile Heart
Platform: PlayStation 3

This is the very first series of this RPG game. Developed by Idea Factory and Compile Heart, Hyperdimension Neptunia is released in 2010 in Japan for PlayStation 3. The game was also published by Compile Heart in Japan, and by NIS America in North America and Europe.

The players will take on the role of a young gorgeous goddess named Neptune. She represents video game console who will fight against the evil goddess, a personified version of a video game piracy product. Throughout the battle, Neptune will deal with in her human form or her battle goddess mode which changes her physical appearance, stats, as well as character’s personality. Similar to a PC Neptune and her fellow goddesses could be personalized by finding and creating new components.

Well, I personally feel that the gameplay in the original can be “wasting my time”. The very fact that this video game so popular because of how strong the humor in this game is. If you’re a someone who can’t handle anime or video game culture, then you have to stay away from this game. There’s nothing serious in this game. But, I still love this series because of the characters, especial Neptune with her hilarious personality.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2

Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2Released on August 18, 2011
Developers: Idea Factory, Compile Heart
Platform: PlayStation 3

Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 is a sequel to the series above and has brand new main characters, along with your favorite characters in the previous series. The gameplay has been updated in order to eliminate the random encounter feature. New maps and a new world feature are included as wee, and the cut scenes have been upgraded to 3D from the old 2D visual novel style cut scenes.

I have only played this game for two hours and already enjoy it. You will find a huge improvement over the first game. If you are a hardcore JRPG fan, you will love this series. Certainly, it is a little awkward at times to play it, but when you get past all the dubious poses in the art stills, you will find a great time in the game.

A lot improved from the first series. The fighting style is a lot better. Another excellent Neptunia storyline. Conquest ending can be frightening.Needless to say, you can also make the true ending the last ending.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory

Hyperdimension Neptunia VictoryReleased on August 30, 2012
Developers: Idea Factory, Compile Heart
Platform: PlayStation 3

A few years after preventing Arfoire’s resurrection, Gamindustri has stayed at peace without any major issues. The CPUs and their younger sisters have been enjoying their peaceful lives for some time. Then one day, the CPU of Planeptune-Neptune-is sent to a different dimension. This new dimension seems just like her own except it has only advanced to the Gamindustri 1980s. IN this dimension, a group of villains calling themselves the “Seven Sages” are attempting to build a world without CPUs. With aid from her new friends, including that dimension’s CPU of Plutia starts her quest to defend a fully different Gamindustri in her new voyage!

It has an excellent storyline and has fantastic graphics quality on the PS3. Anyone who’s truly into anime and likes a long plot ought to get this game, despite the fact that be recommended that it’s not the best game if your kids are under 13.

The storyline can be humorous and cute. I do love the combat system, it just gets slightly repetitive after a while. The game is very colorful and pretty to look at even if the images aren’t anything amazing. Overall, I do believe this game is perfect for a particular group of people who would enjoy it.

Megadimension Neptunia VII

Megadimension Neptunia VIIReleased on April 23, 2015
Developers: Idea Factory, Compile Heart
Platform: PlayStation 4

The first PS3 game in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, this series features brand new characters, three worlds are included, three brand new stories to play, a brand new strong transformation mode, additional features to the battle system, along with a brand new dungeon mini-game. Enjoy original Japanese and English dubs, plus English subtitles, as well as experience free-roaming turn-based battles as you get all of the items you and your new allies have to save Gamindustri!

G.C. 2015-Gamindustri has moved into a dangerous season called the CPU Shift Period. During this time of social unrest, deprecating rumors in regards to the CPUs have started to cover Gamindustri. Neptune and the others worry the citizens will quickly call for new leaders to replace them and that their rule will end. In these crucial moments, Planetune, Neptune, and Nepgear mysteriously vanish. Their location is a divergent world, nearing its devastating end, known as the Zero Dimension. They encounter the last remaining CPU of this world, Uzume Tennouboshi, who’s frantically waging a lonely battle against a huge evil called the Dark CPU.

While it’s an easy game to get into and is hard to get lost, some of the enemies do get very powerful at a number of chapters, not surprisingly. This game also offers a number of new mechanics put in place that previous series didn’t. Which gives more strategy to the mix.

However, if fan-service is a deal-breaker to some, then it would be a good idea to skip out on this series, and most JRPGs or anime in general. However, despite the quantity of silliness this series may provide, there is plenty of content that’s amusing, which aids it to stay fresh. From the pleasant cast to the 4th wall-breaking dialogue, this can be an excellent game for JRPG players, and anime fans.

Spin-off Series

Idea Factory and several developers also created some spin-off series with more unique titles.

Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection

Hyperdimension Neptunia Producing PerfectionReleased on June 20, 2013
Developers: Idea Factory, Compile Heart, Tamsoft
Platform: PlayStation Vita

Players take on the role of the protagonist, who happens to fall into Gamindustri and is instantly hired by one of the four CPU’s: Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert, to be their producer and handle their idol careers. Get your training wheels on ladies, because a new producer is in town and the destiny of Gamindustri hangs in the stability! Will you be competent to correctly raise these cute girls into idols, or will their people be stolen away from them by the well-known idol group MOB-48? Instruct these girls to sing, dance, as well as correctly promote themselves to the general people thanks in part to your knowledge in training video game idols back on your own world. As the reputation rises, they can join one another in singing duets, or maybe even get together for a full ensemble!

I’m sure many people on the internet will state that this game is simple. I would say in my opinion, I must disagree, especially if you have not played this game yet.  While the story can be short-lived, the quantity of content or events that you can make going through several plays through are fascinating. There’s a great deal to be achieved with this game. So, this spin-off game is also a recommended game for any Hyperdimension series.

Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart

Hyperdevotion Noire Goddess Black HeartReleased on May 29, 2014
Developers: Sting, Compile Heart
Platform: Playstation Vita, Microsoft Windows

Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart is the first strategy RPG in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. In contrast to previous Hyperdimension Neptunia series, Hyperdevotion Noire isn’t set within the world of Gamindustri, but instead inside an identical but different world called “GA Market”. The goddesses of each of the four nations tend to be locked in a heated fight against one another for dominion over this world. Just like Noire is one step away from complete domination, the goddesses tend to be abruptly robbed of their powers by a mysterious force. Now in order to save the world from devastation, the four goddesses should unite GA Market and destroy the onslaught!

Personally, I truly loved this game. I am a huge fan of the Hyperdimension series and I can see why other people can’t stand this game as often. This kind of game includes a different play style from the other Hyperdimension games. It’s a lot more like a simple tactical strategy game since you should know where to move your character to find the best out of each battle.

Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed

Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action UnleashedReleased on August 28, 2014
Developer: Tamsoft
Platform: PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows

Get ready for a flutter of fast-paced action! Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed is the first-ever foray into the 3D action hack-and-slash genre for the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. It is coming only on the PlayStation Vita. Featuring brand new playable characters, along with easy-to-customize equipment and over-the-top skills that have not been seen in any previous Neptunia games. This game has something to provide old series fans and brand new fans as well.

A great hack-and-slash style game that has a break from the usual story types (visual novel) used in the all previous series. If you never played a previous Neptunia game, then you don’t have to worry about understanding the storyline because it’s straightforward and just there to introduce the characters and the fundamental idea’s behind the series.

The battle system is extremely smart designed and functions without problems with the only small drawback being that camera angles can occasionally lead to enemies behind you not being seen because the area of view is cut at a certain level. However, camera’s sensitivity could be modified in settings and can also be controlled by the player throughout the battle so the issue becomes a non-issue after a while.

MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies

MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS ZombiesReleased on November 26, 2015
Developer: Felistella
Platform: PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows

Fight off zombies hordes together with friends in the first multiplayer game in the Neptunia series. MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies for the PlayStation Vita is a sequel to the high-intensity hack-and-slash action game Neptunia U above. Set in Gamicademi – Gamindustri’s academy for CPUs and CPU candidates – Blanc and her friends should film a movie to save their school, battle zombies, and look adorable at the same time.

Play with up to three buddies in the multiplayer mode or with two assist characters to enhance statuses in battle, tag team along with another character, such as new characters, Tamsoft and Uzume Tennouboshi, as well as the returning characters including Plutia, Peashy, Dengekiko, and Famitsu, to Nep up some zombies. Furthermore, you can stylize characters with accessories such as glasses, eye patches, and masks to ensure you look extra adorable while slaying zombies.

G0ddesses go to school to learn more about the human culture which as the embodiment of numerous video game consoles and need to battle zombies to turn them back to humans and is a hack-and-slash game with several visual novel elements. The story is cringed but it is hack-and-slash that is really fun and that’s all you will need to enjoy this game.

Superdimension Neptune vs Sega Hard Girls

Superdimension Neptune vs Sega Hard GirlsReleased on November 26, 2016
Developer: Felistella
Platforms: PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows

In this RPG adventure game, our usual main character of the Neptunia series, Neptune, is transformed into a motorcycle and now IF who has long been assisting Neptune from the side, should take the main stage!

If you are a fan of the series, this will seem familiar, almost too recognizable. It’s a quest-based storyline. You choose which quest to complete when you want to. I love that type of freedom. I own all of the games on the Vita and I would state this one is one of the best game I’ve ever played.

The story can also be wonderful, while I am only around 4 hours into so far the story is great if not better than the previous series. I love the point that there’s a time travel element to this game, while previous games had dimension hopping which was hard in the lore and is confusing for the overall franchise timeline ironically using time travel is a lot less complicated.

Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online

Cyberdimension Neptunia 4 Goddesses OnlineReleased on February 9, 2017
Developers: Compile Heart, Tamsoft
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows

Honestly, this is a good hack-and-slash game with MMORPG setting and several mechanics. I have finished the story and post story stuff, this does feel a little short but you will find other cons to the game that weight it down. It has potential anyway.

The visuals are generally beautiful along with brand new maps that are enjoyable and simple to navigate. Most of the enemy types is going to be recognizable to fans of the series although given a graphical facelift and extra animation to suit the new environment. Character designs in the cut scenes are gorgeous as always, although not animated as they were in Megadimension. 3D Character models are fluid and battle effects tend to be superbly flashy, borderline distracting.

Nep-Nep Connect: Chaos Chanpuru

Reasons: I haven’t played this game.

Several remake series have been published to the public, including:

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1Released on October 31, 2013
Developer: Felistella
Platforms: PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 is the improved remake of the game for the PlayStation Vita and Microsoft Windows, developed by Felistella. Besides totally reworked visuals, enhanced framerate performance, new audio and seiyuu, numerous gameplay elements and plot details have been changed. The latest feature dubbed the “remake system” unlocks special game adjustments including new dungeons and in0battle rewards.

I already have around 40 hours in Re;Birth 1. Firstly, this game offers several fan service but is mainly focused on the first two segments. There’s on the other hand, constant fan service from activating HDD. Beyond that, almost all of the service is small character movements including shrugs. The plot is a type of bland and dull in summary sense because most of the character development relies upon around small snippets of dialog and short quotes. Maybe the greatest part of this game is the remake system. The system easily replaces a fair quantity of the actual shop selections, among others.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2: Sister Generation

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 - Sisters GenerationReleased on March 20, 2014
Developer: Felistella
Platforms: PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2: Sisters Generation is the remake of the game for the PlayStation Vita developed by Felistella, which includes a brand new choice of playable characters. Similar to the previous remake for the PlayStation Vita – Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birt 1 – this game also uses the battle system from Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory and a “remake system” which unlocks unique improvements to the game.

Just like I mentioned above, the gameplay is almost the same as in Neptunia V and Re;Birth 1. As much as 4 characters can join the combat and the new characters look exciting. You can easily play if you have played the prior games but even though you haven’t, the tutorials are everywhere on the internet. The world music has become transformed too but the fighting style is the same, which is great. Localization is okay and we now have audio assistance for English and Japanese.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3: V Generation

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3 - V GenerationReleased on December 18, 2014
Developer: Felistella
Platforms: PlayStation Vita, Microsoft Windows

Which also known as V Century in Japan, is the remake game of Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory. In this remake, the game includes more scenarios, more story, and extra comedy.

Well, as you know that I have enjoyed every Neptunia series game that has launched on Vita and other platforms as of today, so I have a confidence to say that this Re;Birth 3 certainly features the very best story when compared to Re;Birth 1 and 2. This game may be the first title in the main series where the dangers are severe and the girls are continuously coping with the enemy faction.

moreover, I have to state the character interactions are also much better in this game, so I would certainly recommend Re;Birth 3 V if you are a huge fan of Hyperdimension Neptunia series.
