Spirits and Gods
With the merging of Shinto and Buddhism, the Sun God Amaterasu and the Mahavairocana Tathagata became one, as did the War God Hachiman and the Amitabha Tathagata. Japan began to think of the Shinto gods and the various Buddhas as being equivalent to each other. In the country of gods, there is no absolute religion. If Gods loss their powers for seven days and seven nights, they will become human. More precisely, they’re not human. They’re just human-like dolls. In order to communicate with humans, gods possess a human-like doll. If they don’t humans can’t converse or even see them. And if their powers aren’t returned by the deadline, they won’t be able to return to normal. When that happens, their personality can never change back. In other words, that means death.
The Soumin Shourai, blessed with the power of Susano-o, is capable of curing epidemics and preventing calamities.
Urashima Taro became deified as Mizunoe Urashimako, the God of Longevity and Marriage who connects the present world and the underworld.
